Terms of use
Using BusinessFormation.us means accepting the terms below. They are short because the site is a publication: it has no accounts, sells nothing, and asks you for nothing.
Information, not advice
The guides here describe public filing processes. They are not legal, tax, or financial advice, and reading them creates no professional relationship. Forming a business has consequences that depend on your situation. For those, talk to a lawyer or an accountant.
Accuracy and your own verification
Statistics come from the U.S. Census Bureau and carry the dataset, period, and retrieval date they were published with. Filing fees, forms, and processing times are checked against each state's official schedule and dated on the page. All of it can still go out of date between a state's change and our next review, and the annual Census datasets lag by roughly two to three years by design.
Before you file or pay anything, confirm the current fee and form with your Secretary of State. Their office is authoritative and this site is not. The site is provided as is, without warranty, and we are not liable for a decision made on a figure you did not verify.
Citing our work
You may quote our figures, charts, and analysis with attribution to BusinessFormation.us and a link to the page you took them from. Data pages carry a ready citation next to each chart. Underlying Census data is public domain and yours to use directly. Republishing a page wholesale, or presenting our analysis as your own, is not covered by that permission.
The site's own text, layout, and charts are our copyright. Agency names and portal names belong to those agencies and appear here only as factual references.
Links to other sites
Guides link to state portals, the IRS, and Northwest Registered Agent. Those sites have their own terms and we do not control what they publish or how they behave. Links to Northwest are affiliate links, which is disclosed on every page that carries one and explained on the methodology page. The price you pay is the same either way, and every state guide also shows the free do-it-yourself path.
